Originated from the Europe,the finswimming with years of history is a charming water sports and has been developed on the basis of the diving monofin and dolphin's swimming posturd.A pair of diving fins was used at the very beginning, after improvements for times,now it is to use one monofin with two feet in. Use of rubber material has been changed into the use of glass fiber.Swimmer'speed has kept increasing due to int-roduction of dolphin's swimming posture and continuous improvement of the monofins. Finswimming speed is probably about 30% faster than that of the swimming.At present,the finswimming sport is divided into world record,world's youth record,intercontinental record,and national records as set by the by the countries worldwide.For finswimming competition in the swimming pool,there are the following three kinds: 1.Swimming with the use of a respiratory tube is called surface finswimming,   which is divided into:50m,100m,200m,400m,800m,1500m,4x100m relay and 4x200 relay. 2.Underwater swimming at a distance of 50m is called apnea swimming. 3.Swimming with the use of a diving regulator and a tank with compressed aix is called immersion swimming.   Which is divied into:100m,400m,800m. The CMAS was founded in Morocco in 1959 and commposed of 15 countries.Now ,it has developed into an orga-nization with over 100 member countries. The CMAS is responsible for the finswimming,fishing and underwat-er hockey and so on .At present,matchers sponsored by the CMAS are world championship,world youth champio-nship,intercontinental championships held at all continents ,and other matches listed as formal events of the world games. In 1986,the international Olympics Committee officially recognized that the finswimming became one of its match events.At present,the CMAS is striving to make the finswimming become an official competitive event of the Olympic Games
