For finswimming,the performance of the monofin is a key to
get a good sport achievement.At the 10th Wor-ld Finswimming
Championship held in Spain in 2000,there was a batch of first-rate
sportsmen from Russi-a,Who won 12 gold medals due to improvement
of the monofins.Chinese team only won 9 gold medals that ti-me.
It was the first time for the Russian team to exceed the Chinese
team in gold medal munber in 10 ye-ars.In 2001,the Russian team
won 8 gold medals in 10 finswimming events at the world games
held in Japa-n.The Chinese team only won one gold medal and
so it touched the bottom in history.
In order to change such a backward situation,China began developing
its own new monofins at the end of 2001.We have made deep studies
on monofin's appearance design,its water dynamic performance,affect
on t-he performance arising from the thickness distribution,affect
on the performance arising from the thick-ness distribution,affect
on the performance arising from its longitudinal and lateral
deformations,and affect on the performance arising from the
free liquid surface.We developed a new type of monofins in 2002
after studies mentioned above and repeated tests and experiments.The
new type of monofin if not li-ke that before,just a piece of
plate,but from its front edge to its back edge and from its
side edge to the center,it appears a three-dimensional shape
in different thicknesses at different positions.As TPU material
is used to produce the monofin,its pliability and elasticity
are better than that of the monof-in made of polyolefin plastic
and glass-fibre reinforced plastic.It greatly increases the
motion freque-ncy and thrust of the monofin.With the use of
newly produced monofins,swimmers broke 3 world records at the
national games held in 2002.At the 11th world finswimming championship
held in last September,the C-hinese team won 13 gold medals,8
silver medals and 4 copper medals at the 24 events.The Chinese
team al-so broke one world record and 11 world championship
records,thus wining a notable achievement.The Chine-se team
once again holds the position of an overlord in finswimming.
